MMA Fighters Should Take a Stand

We here at the SFL love our MMA counterparts, we really do. We believe anyone who makes their living getting punched in the face is top-notch in our book regardless of the fighting style. That being said we think it is time MMA fighters look at becoming standing fighters.

Let's be clear, as aficionados of combat sports we love the skill and subtlety associated with a great ground game but let's be honest, the fans are not. Sure, there are some hard-core fans who will choke someone out for even suggesting the ground game is not worthy but look no further than the number one MMA promoter in the United States and what do you hear when the fighters are on the ground longer than twenty seconds? The boos coming from the stands. What do you hear when they stand back up and start striking again? The thunderous applause and cheers of fans who want all the excitement associated with striking. Should it be this way? No, but it is. The real question is, what are fighters going to do when it comes to their careers. When most MMA promoters offer terrible pay, not long term incentives, and a fighter still gets the short end of the stick when it comes to matchmaker politics it is no wonder more and more MMA fighters are falling in love with the SFL.
